Then You Have a Real Problem

"For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil..." (Romans 13: 3). Paul was discussing civil government, its responsibilities, and the Christian's duty to submit to its authority. Sometimes this is very difficult to do because so often those in authority in civil government do not do what God has ordained civil government to do but quite the opposite. Often evil is defended and promoted with justice and truth hindered and opposed by the very system of government. What happens then?

Paul lived under a civil government that was that way. Many today suffer the same fate in many countries; some more than others. While we must be subject to civil government because God said so, we are under no obligation to remain loyal to a government that defies God, renders His will null and void, grants favors to criminals and persecutes God-fearing people. When that happens there is a real problem for the Christian. We are having that problem to arise more and more everyday.
