The Themes of Hebrews |
||
| The book of Hebrews
emphasizes several important and related matters, not the least of which
is the superiority of Christ and His covenant over the former covenant God
had made with Israel. While some were being misled to leave Christ and
return to Judaism, the writer shows how foolish that would be because
Christ surpasses the old law in every respect.
Also we see the relationship between the law of Moses and the will of Christ. The law was but a shadow of things to come. It provided types of which Christ and His law are anti-types. The priesthood of Christ and the nature of it rings throughout the book. His former state in heaven with God was abandoned to become flesh and live among men that He might be our high priest. The meaning of saving faith is found in Hebrews. There is no separation of faith from obedience if we are to be saved. Knowledge of the old system greatly enhances our understanding of the system of salvation God has designed and delivered through Christ. |
