The Mule Left Him |
||
| A good analogy has
been reported regarding Absalom and his mule. After his rebellion against
his father failed he fled the scene of battle only to get caught up by his
long hair in tree branches. His mule kept going and he was suspended
between heaven and earth, only to await the darts Joab would cast into his
body and kill him.
In spite of David's plea to deal gently with Absalom Joab did what he thought was best. But the analogy is that the mule upon which Absalom depended did not sustain him. Everything that evil men rely upon as they do their evil will ultimately fail them. It will go out from under them. They may have some temporary worldly success but even that is usually of brief duration. There is nothing on which they rely which will take them to safety in the next world. They will be left hanging helplessly as was Absalom. Why people do not put their trust and confidence in Him who always provides success is hard to understand. We do well to give heed and not depend on some unreliable "mule." |
