Obey Civil Law |
||
| As odious as it may
be at times we are obligated as Christians to help maintain order in
society and obey civil authority. This does not mean we approve all such
laws and we do not. Many of them are viciously against what Christians
believe. But unless they demand that we violate some law of the Higher
authority (God) we are to do as Paul taught, "Submit yourselves to
every ordinance of man for the Lord's sake; whether it be to the king, as
supreme, or unto governors, as unto them that are sent by him for the
punishment of evildoers, and for the praise of them that do well (First
Peter 2: 13, 14).
Just because something is legal does not mean it is acceptable to God. Men make many laws that defy God. Christians are vulnerable to suffering because of human laws because, while they will obey civil power unless it demands disobedience to God, they will resist compliance to anything that sets itself above God's will. This is a hard world for Christians. |
