A Throne But Not a Towel

Note the phrase: "The disciples were ready to fight for a throne but not a towel." (Old Truths in New Robes, Vol. 1, page 205, by Franklin Camp). Misunderstanding the nature of His kingdom His disciples wanted chief places around the throne. This desire caused strife among them. They knew not what they asked. (Matthew 20). But they were ready for the exalted places.

But what about using the towel to wash feet in the upper room? (John 13). How many wanted that task? It would be humbling and a deed for a servant. It remained for the Lord Himself to perform that work.

How many of us are much like those back then who are willing to have the high places but shun the lowly service of servants?
