Not the One to Watch |
||
| Strangely, some
people say they want to be saved like the thief on the cross. (I assume
without the cross). They mean to say without baptism. The thief never
lived under the command to be baptized for the remission of sins IN THE
NAME OF CHRIST. That began on Pentecost. I had as soon look to Abraham,
Joshua or Rahab as to what is required as to the thief. They all lived
before the gospel became God's plan of salvation.
Some fail to rightly divide the word of truth, take a part here, another splinter there, and concoct their own way to be saved. It will not work. If we be saved we must obey the gospel which includes baptism for the remission of sins. Why try to dismiss God's command? Furthermore, while I cannot prove the thief was ever baptized, nobody can prove he was not. He did live during the days of John the Baptist and many did hear him and were baptized. Could the thief have been one of them? No matter! We live this side of the cross. We must obey the gospel. |
