Not Opposed to Each Other

Ephesians 2: 8, 9, "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God; not of works lest any man should boast." Grace refers to what God has done to save man. Faith refers to what man must do to be saved. No incompatibility here.

To further see there is no incompatibility between grace and works, consider the very next verse. "For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

God expects works of us. How could we ever conclude works and grace are opposed to each other? Good works, such as works of obedience, are a part of the system of salvation by the grace of God. It is not grace or works. It is grace and works done through obedient faith..
