From Mt. Pisgah |
||
| Bible students will
recall this mountain as the place to which Moses retired just before his
death. He went there at God's instruction. He could from that vantage
point view the promised land which he was denied entrance because of his
mistakes. While we have no doubt regarding the spiritual welfare of Moses,
surely it must have been a disappointment to him to never enter the land
toward which he had directed Israel for forty years. He had endured so
much but could not enter himself. His reward was not to be an earthly one.
Do we wonder what were his thoughts are he stood there looking at the glorious land God had promised? Surely among many matters which he may have considered was the fact that he had served God faithfully for those many years and his success was in the success of his people to finally reach their destination. Satisfaction of a job well done was his to enjoy and his hope for peace with God must have been strong.. God buried Moses and we are not told of the location. Probably men would have made an idolatrous shrine of the place if we knew. But we all are reaching that day when we can get a closer view of the heavenly Canaan. Will we have that joy of having done our best in His service? Like Moses, our reward will not be an earthly one, but spiritual and eternal. |
