Counting the Cost |
||
| Luke 14: 28 teaches
us to "count the cost" of being His disciple. But why do we
count the cost? Is it to determine whether being a Christian is worthwhile
or not before we decide? Does it take too much? Or is it to learn what it
takes to be a Christian, having already decided, whatever the cost, we
shall be His disciple?
I suggest the last reason is what our motive should be in counting the cost. When we realize our lost condition, our inability to save ourselves, how God has provided salvation for us through Christ, we ought not have any problem or hesitate to decide to follow Christ. That is the only way of life. Once the decision is made, then we count the cost but with the determination to do whatever we must to be loyal to Him regardless of the consequences that may befall us. Motive matters. |
