A Lesson From Gideon

  In just a few moments from writing this brief article I will leave for a congregation in a nearby county to present a lesson on Gideon. There is so much we can learn from him, his attitudes and actions.

  Let me emphasize but one of these lessons here. When we first meet Gideon he is in confusion, misunderstanding the situation, complaining, and even showing some doubt about God and His ability to provide for Israel. He is not the hero image we usually associate with his name.

  But later we see him as that faithful, gallant and brave leader who led Israel to victory against overwhelming odds. Let us see Gideon, not only what he was, but what he became. Let us understand God is concerned about us for what we were, are presently, but also what we can become. Let us understand the necessity of a strong faith and a determined obedience. We can be "Gideons" also.
